Al Shindaga Tunnel

The Al Shindaga tunnel is a tunnel that goes under the Dubai creek and connects the two neighbourhoods of Deira and Bur Dubai. Built in 1975, the tunnel was probably an engineering marvel of its time. It is still the only under water tunnel in UAE.

Hi from Dubai City photo. I know I've not put anything on recently, as alas we've not been since January. But just for you, I'll have a look in my archive & see if I can find some more to put on.

It's great to see a new Dubai photo blog out there! I've added you to my blog list. I love this tunnel. I've always had a thing for underwater tunnels. It used to be a lighter way to travel between Deira to Bur Dubai.

one of the memories I have of this tunnel is seeing the facial reaction and the impatience that sets in among all those people listening to the radio during the long trip in a public bus...
Just being isolated from entertainment for a few moments used to change there moods so drastically...

Excellent pictures on your blog! I'm a fan of the Shindaga Foot Tunnel that runs alongside, from the heritage site to the fish market, more or less. It, and the abras are the only human ways to cross the Creek.
