The tradition of fishing

Over the years in Dubai, I had never ever come across a local Emarati fisherman so it was quite an exciting sight to see this young Emarati fixing his nets on the beach.
Dubai is steeped in the tradition of fishing and it was interesting to see that a lot of this tradition is still evident. The young man spent almost 4 hours all by himself weaving a net while his toddler played alongside in the sand. As I started talking to him, it was evident to me that this young man was well educated and well traveled.

But he was so passionate about his family's traditional occupation - fishing. He told about the boats that he keeps and a few interesting stories from his experiences.

Hi,

These are nice photos. Surprising that this guy is still using a manual process to make nets to today's modern mechanized and automated world.

This is a hard day's work in making the net, I also once tried to help making some fish net, though 'twas just for the record -- not really serious. Thanks for the visit. You do have an interesting blog too.

Thanks guys.

What impressed me was the sheer passion the guy showed for his trade. He seemed very well educated and could have been easily drawn into Dubai gold hunt!

He could have been a developed, a real estate agent, a banker.. anything else!

Steve,
I saw your comment about Secret Dubai is only visible when you travel, so what you should do is use Google Reader!

Possibly Twitter will do same job, I am just starting to check out it's capabilities.

Contact me if you need any further guidance on installation.
